Trek FAQs
How much will Trek 2023 cost?

No cost. Participants will provide their own pioneer clothing, personal items, and their own 5-gallon bucket.

Thursday, June 8 through Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Where will Trek 2023 for the Thanksgiving Stake be held?

Mosida is located on the southwestern banks of Utah Lake and is about a 45-minutes from the Stake Center.
Can a non-member friend come with me?

Yes, if they live in the boundaries of our stake. Non-member friends need to register in advance. Friends will need to abide by church standards and wear their own pioneer clothing and bring their own equipment.
How old do I have to be? What if I graduate in June? What if I am 18? What if I am
19?

To participate in Trek you will need to be at least 14 years old or turn 14 in 2023.
Seniors who graduate in 2023 are also welcome to participate.
Do I need to bring a tent?

Mas and Pas assigned to each Trek family have the responsibility of gathering tents for their Trek family’s use. Your Ma and Pa may ask you to bring a tent.

Nearly 22 miles over 3 days.
Will facilities be available?

Portable toilets are spread throughout the hiking trails and in the camping area.
There will also be water jugs in each handcart to fill water bottles with drinking water.
What type of shoes should I wear?

Good quality, broken-in running/athletic shoes are best. Broken-in, well-fitted hiking boots would also work. A tip: high-top athletic shoes or hiking boots will prevent the sand from getting into your shoes. No sandals and no new shoes. Shoes should fully
enclose your foot. You may bring a second pair of shoes. If it rains or if we end up walking through a creek, you will need to change into a dry pair of shoes.
Can I bring my cell phone if I use it for scripture reading?

No cell phones or tablets.
What is a “Trek Family”?

A married couple from the stake is assigned to be a Ma and Pa along with 6-8 youth.
Will my ward be my “Trek Family”?

No, although a few youth in your ward may also be in your Trek Family.
Will there be drinking water?

Yes. And it is VERY important to drink a substantial amount of water! You will sweat a lot and you must replenish that with water, water, and more water. Don’t forget to bring your REFILLABLE water bottle!
Can I shower?

No, there are no showers. You can brush your teeth and wash your face and hands.
Bring wet wipes to wipe dirt off of arms and legs.
What will we eat? Will there be meals for youth with food restrictions?

Excellent and familiar food! Yes, those with food restrictions will be accommodated for.
Are there medical provisions?

Yes. We will have a medical staff at the campsite and along with us on the trail.
What should I be doing now to prepare for Trek?

Exercise frequently over the next few months. We suggest that you begin walking 3 times a week, at least 1-2 miles each time. As your cardiovascular endurance increases, it would be ideal to increase your time and distance. Over the next several
months work towards walking 3-5 miles at one time, at least once each week. Grab a friend and take a walk, jog or hike or participate in a sport.
Do some family history and find out if you have an ancestor who was a real life trekker. Decide which of your ancestors you would like to trek for.
Gather your pioneer clothing, and your 5-gallon bucket.
Prepare yourself spiritually by reading your scriptures and praying daily.
